Six principles
Rules we set before building Abu. Features came after, and when a feature breaks a rule, the feature changes.
1. It records. It does not judge.
It will say "3 hours since the last feed." It will not say "your baby is hungry." The first is about the record; the second is a judgment about the baby. Judging is for you and your doctor.
2. Keep the original, track corrections, store no computed values.
We do not delete records for our convenience. You can correct them, but who changed what, and when, stays. Averages and the like are recomputed every time, never stored — when a rule changes, the records do not.
3. Who wrote it, how, and how reliably must always be answerable.
Every entry carries the person and the path — by hand, by widget, by voice.
4. Your records are yours.
We only hold them. Kept safe, returned in full on request, never gated behind a wait or a condition, deleted when you ask.
5. The app is complete on its own.
Abu works fully without any other app or service. Integrations are nice to have, never required.
6. Ask first whether it can be narrower.
Before adding anything, we ask this. We choose narrower over wider.
The full text of the principles is an internal document. What is written here is the whole of it, in plain words.
